Baby Blessings

Wow!  I can't believe we finally made it this far.  Layla Danielle Wright was born by c-section on Monday, December 29 at 5:22 pm.  She weighed 8 pounds 11 ounces and measured 20 and 1/2 inches.  She is perfect!

Here is what I remember from the day.  Sorry if it is long, I just want to make sure I have this written down so I can remember it all later :)

I started having contractions around midnight Sunday but I wasn't sure if they were the real thing.  We went to bed and then they started hitting harder and consistently.  At one point I did tell Eric that I was having contractions but he doesn't remember me telling him.  So, basically, I would start a contraction, get up out of bed, walk around the house until it was gone, lay back down and try to sleep for 5 minutes and then another one would come.  It was a long night.  I finally decided that I was sick of trying to sleep and got up and took a shower.  I got back into bed after that and woke Eric up and asked him if he was ready to have a baby today.  It really got his attention that time and he was wide awake.  A few minutes after that I was having a contraction so I got up to walk around.  That's when my water broke!  Despite the pain and shaking (not sure why I was shaking) we started the sprint to get out of the house and to the hospital.  On the ride there the contractions were about 3-4 minutes apart and getting pretty unbearable.  We made it to the hospital just fine and had to fill out paperwork and then I finally got checked.  The nurse was excited that my water broke on my own and that things were progressing on their own.  They moved me to a nice room (seriously 3 times the size of our bedroom).  The doctor came by at some point and checked me and said I could have an epidural any time I was ready.  I was ready.  I wasn't sure how I would handle the epidural thing because I am so squeamish but Eric was there with me and I made it.  I was oblivious to this but Eric told me later that the nurse set down the gigantic needle on the bed and he covered it with the blanket.  The nurse asked him if there was something wrong with the blanket and he told her that he didn't want me to see the needle.  What a sweetheart my Eric is.  The epidural was AMAZING!  I hadn't been that relaxed and comfortable in months.  As the day kept going the nurse kept saying how great and uncomplicated things were moving.  Then Eric and I were resting in the room and all of the sudden 3 nurses came in and were rushing around, giving me oxygen and rolling me onto my side and all this stuff.  I was really scared and they said the baby's heart rate dropped a bunch and they were trying to get it back up.  They did get it back up and everything was back to normal.  A while later one of the nurses checked me and we tried pushing a few times.  I was thinking to myself, "I can do this, no pain, just pushing."  Then she told us that the baby was facing upwards.  Her head was down but she was looking up instead of down.  She tried to turn her while I was pushing but couldn't so she called the Dr. and she tried as well.  Also during this time, I guess the fluid coming out was not the color they wanted.  So, now it was decision time.  They said since she had been stressed at one point she must have pooped which isn't good because it can get into her mouth and lungs and all.  They said we could keep pushing and try to make it work or we could have a c-section.  I just looked at Eric and he said to the Dr, "Whatever you think, you are the boss."  She definitely wanted us to do the c-section so we didn't cause any more stress on baby's heart.  Immediately they started getting us ready for the surgery.  I started crying when they left the room.  I think going into this, a c-section was one of my biggest fears.  Eric was right there comforting me.  They gave me some more drugs in the epidural and rolled me away.  Eric had to wait in the room until they asked for him to come to the OR.  I was thinking "come on, I need my Eric!"  Everything was moving so fast that I didn't have much time to be extremely nervous.  They got me all ready and Eric came in and sat next to me.  I was praying for peace and God gave it to me.  We had just listened to a sermon on Sunday about God being Jehovah Shalom which means God of Peace.  It was awesome that God had that all planned out for me to hear that when I needed it.  I am amazed at how He gave me the peace I needed at that moment.  Eric watched the entire process and even got to cut the cord.  She came out crying and I started crying.  They kept saying, "she is so big, where were you hiding her in there?"  They weighed her and did all that while I was laying there getting fixed up.  Eric got to take her to the nursery and watch her warm up and then give her a bath and wash her hair.  No fair!  I got all sewn up (actually stapled I think) and they brought me back to the room.  I felt like I waited for ever and Eric finally came back with little Layla.  Whew!  It was over and we were all safe and sound.  My parents got here not too long after that.  I did not feel that great, I was having the "baby shakes" and in quite a bit of pain.  But nothing was more important and awesome as the birth of our little Layla miracle.

God has blessed me so much these last few days.  I sit here and hold little Layla and am overwhelmed with joy.

Blankets for Baby

I decided to be quite domestic in my time waiting for baby to come.  I crocheted a bright pink blanket and quilted a colorful blanket for our little one.  She'll be cozy warm! Here are some pics.

Week With Danielle

This past week was super fun!  Eric's sister Danielle came to visit for the entire week.  We did a lot of sitting around and just hanging out.  Eric played lots of video games and Danielle and I did a lot of surfing the net and watching Eric play his games.  We also decided we wanted to visit a bunch of different places in the area that we hadn't had time to yet since we moved here. Basically we decided where we were going to go based on what restaurant we wanted to go to.

Eric and I had seen this noodle house place that we wanted to take Danielle on Monday.
We thought it was Thai but it was Vietnamese.  We decided to be adventurous and try it anyway.  It was...interesting.  Eric ordered soup and Danielle and I ordered noodle bowls.  We laughed a lot when they brought it out because Eric's looked really gross and ours looked really yummy.
So, Wednesday we decided to go to Bricktown which is in downtown Oklahoma City.  We went to the Spaghetti Factory and
 it was yummo.
We walked around Bricktown afterwords.  It was really cold!  We stopped at Starbucks for some hot drinks and then walked to the botanical gardens which was totally decked out for Christmas.  We took lots of pictures with the beautiful lights.

Thursday was schnitzel night!  We found this German restaurant about 25 minutes away.  It was a blast.  Eric talked to the owner in German :)  We all had the amazing schnitzel and reminisced about our adventures in Germany.

When we got home we took a Christmas picture in front of our Christmas tree.  We all (including Little Miss Wright) wore our santa hats :)

Friday night we decided to be adventurous again.  Eric had read in a magazine (while waiting at the Dr's office for me) about this restaurant in Meers Oklahoma.  They have been open since 1901 and the article said that you can't claim to be a resident of Oklahoma unless you have been to Meers.  So, of course we had to go!  It was about 1 & 1/2 hours away and we felt like we were driving to the middle of no where.  We literally were.  Meers has a population of 6!  They are famous for their Seismic Meers Burger.  We all 3 shared this huge burger, freedom
fries, fried green beans and onions.  We were so full but had to try their homemade ice cream and peach cobbler and coconut cream pie.  What were we thinking!  We were so stuffed but the food was amazing.

On the drive home from Meers we saw a Festival of Lights and had to stop.  We drove through this big park filled with Christmas lights and decorations.

It was an awesome week with lots of laughing.  I am so thankful that Danielle could come visit us for half of her leave time.  I really enjoyed being able to sit around and talk girl talk with her too!

Big Mama

It has certainly been an adventure these last 36 weeks.  I titled this blog "Big Mama" because of the last 2 pictures in this blog.  Pregnancy is filled with lots of ups and downs, emotions, and strange things that happen to your body.  I won't go into detail :) but I am thankful for this journey that God has given.  I am counting down the days when we get to meet this little miracle.

This is me around 10 weeks.

This is on my birthday around 20 weeks.

Here I am sometime around 34 weeks. (yes, I am smiling for the picture but I feel like a blimp who has trouble getting up off the couch)

And here's "Big Mama" at 36 weeks.  And let's just say,
I'm ready to get this show on the road :)

Please keep praying for us in the next few weeks as we wait for little Miss Wright!

29th Birthday

Well, it's official, I'm 29!  I don't feel any different so far.  I just caught up to Eric for a few months.

My birthday was fun.  My parents came to visit for a couple days.  We went shopping and out to dinner at Olive Garden.  Yummo!  Probably one of the most surprising things that happened on my birthday was during soccer practice.  I was siting at home during practice and someone knocked on the door.  I went to the door and the soccer team was standing there and gave me flowers and a card and sang "Happy Birthday" to me!  How sweet was that?!  What a bunch of nice guys.  Well, here are the only 3 pics I took that day.

If you can't see it in the picture, there were 2 signs sticking out of the flowers.  One said "Thank You" and the other said "It's A Girl." He he!  The card with the flowers said "Thanks Mom" with a hand written "Team" in between "Thanks" and "Mom."  How cute!

Prairie Dog Town

So, a few weeks ago, we decided to drive to Denver to watch a Wizards game.  On the way there, we saw signs for the largest prairie dog in the world.  Eric and Ryan thought that was hilarious (a guy thing), so we HAD to stop in the middle of Kansas at Prairie Dog Town.  What a strange experience!  It was sort of a strange animal "farm/zoo."  Check out these pics.

Is anyone watching the road?

Huge sign pointing to the prairie dog...

One of the 1st signs that we were in a very strange place: rattle snake pit.  Seriously creepy.  And the crazy owner lady was scraping the top of the cage with something to get them to rattle!  Then she asked if we wanted her to open the cage so we could get better pictures....NO!

The largest prairie dog in the world!  Just kidding.  There were
what seemed like hundreds of prairie dogs just running around in this open "zoo."  They would poke their heads up and stare at us.

Now, why would you have raccoons in a zoo?  Because it was one of the strangest places I have ever been.

So, this LOOKS like a normal cow.  Here's where it gets really strange...

It has 6 legs!  WHAT?!  Can you say GROSS?!

This one has 5 legs.  4 normal and 1 coming out its neck!

Eric and Ryan trying to look like the nasty cow.

So, after all that, I didn't get a picture of the "largest prairie dog in the world."  One of the stupidest things I have ever seen.  It was a really big concrete statue of a prairie dog.  What a rip :)  We ended up leaving feeling kind of gross and laughing a whole lot.  Definitely one of the strangest places I've ever been.

Here's us at the game.  It was rainy and cold but still fun.

Drive to OK

The drive (with all of our belongings) to Oklahoma was quite interesting.  We had to drive 4 cars!  We had the moving truck, our two cars, and Eric's parent's car.  There were 4 of us so we all drove separate.  It was quite boring!  I took some pictures because the trip was way too long to drive alone and we had to drive slow because the moving truck only went 65 :)  Yes, I'm a dork.

Here is my view the entire trip: the Budget truck that Eric was driving!

Dork driving the Scion.

The view in my rear view mirror: Eric's Mom driving the Explorer.
Eric, on one of our caffeine stops.  We were all having a hard time staying awake.

"New" House in OK

We finally made the official move to Moore, OK.  It is never fun to move but we made it and we finally have our house put together (for the most part).  Here are some pictures.  And, yes, the soccer field in the one picture is just steps from our front porch.
